Gitanyow Huwilp Constitution
In 2009, the Gitanyow chose to adopt a written constitution for the following purposes:
- Assist in informing the world of our inherent right to govern ourselves in accordance with our inherited Ayookxw, Adawaak, Lax’yip, Simalgyax language, Wilp and our respective Lax’yip, Ayuuks, Git’mgan and the practice of the Li’ligit;
- Assist all other governments in Canada and British Columbia, with whom we co-exist, in understanding our system of governance.

The Gitanyow have developed Histories, Territories & Laws Part II: Gitanyow Lax’yip Land Use Plan to provide direction about land and resource use as an exercise of their inherent title, jurisdiction and law.
